Volunteer/Giving Opportunity: Lil’ Givers, Birthday Parties for Disadvantaged Children

I am a full time teacher now, and my time is limited in regards to how often I write on here and how often I get out to explore new things. I appreciate being pitched about activities going on around Columbus and other wonderful ideas, such as the pitch I received this week. Recently, I told my husband that I’d love to hear from some grassroots philanthropy people who are doing things for kids. And guess what?! I did.

Jennifer Hatfield started Lil’ Givers, which sells stationary and just started a program that provides birthday parties for children who are disadvantaged. Many disadvantaged children living in shelters, group homes, foster care or other non-traditional living situations don’t get the luxury of a birthday party. Jennifer and her son were volunteering at The Homeless Families Foundation and saw first-hand how difficult some families have it in our city. She decided that a way they could help was to acknowledge these disadvantaged children on their birthdays.

“I have a passion for children, serving & throwing awesome parties. With my desire to make a difference in the lives of children, I started a very special passion project, Mover + Shaker Parties. The mission is to give children, who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, a memorable birthday celebration in a safe and fun environment,” said Jennifer.

In April 2014, Lil’ Givers will host the VERY first birthday party for disadvantaged children in Columbus, Ohio. It will include five local businesses who are in the celebration business and over 10 volunteers.  The Mover + Shaker Parties are fully funded by generous donations and sales from the online shop. Frequently, readers contact me asking for ways to volunteer or help out with their children, and this is a great opportunity! Lil’ Givers is looking for volunteers as well as monetary donations.

Take a look at this link to help out: Give Disadvantaged Children the Magic of a Birthday Party. Consider ordering some of her party stationary (like water bottle printables). volunteering, or even $5 will go a long way.

Lil’ Givers can be found on facebook and twitter. Be sure to check them out! Here’s to birthday party goodness and hopefully lots of cupcakes and smiles!
