About

cBus Mom offers suggestions and reviews of kid-friendly activities in Central Ohio. I am a Columbus, Ohio mom and I like to get out and explore with my kids. Sometimes I get apprehensive when I take the kids someplace new, and I prefer to know what to expect. In an ideal world I’d always have my besties with me – they’d drop everything to accompany me to new places and activities; but that doesn’t work…I tried. They started hanging up on me. So, many times I go at it alone with the shorter and cuter versions of myself, and then I share some hopefully helpful tips about my excursions on this here blog.

Some personal tidbits:

Me. Eating. As usual.

I grew up in Shawnee Hills, a small town lumped in with Dublin and Powell, located right along the Scioto River. My childhood was full of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn type of fun because the river was part of my backyard. We learned tales of Leatherlips, the Shawnee Indian chief, and enjoyed listening to the lions roar at the Columbus Zoo each night before we went to sleep. I graduated from OSU with a BA and a few years later moved to New York City. I lived in Park Slope, Brooklyn for a stint and then moved to Rego Park, Queens. It was a great time but my roots were in Ohio – and I had to get back to them. I am glad I did and am thankful for my family and terrific friends I have met along the way.

I don’t consider myself a “jack of all trades,” but I have had many types of jobs in my lifetime. My BA is in Ancient Roman History, and when I finished college I joined the improvisational theater company Cinublue Productions. Can you gather why I moved to NYC? Yes, to become an actor. It was there I stumbled upon a career in media/public relations (and bartending to help pay the bills) which helped me get a job when I returned home. I worked in media relations for a number of years on some fun projects such as the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the Lane Bryant Fashion Show, and some incredible health stories from Eli Lilly, OSU Medical Center, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. When I decided to have children I also decided to switch careers to become a teacher – mainly because of my love of history, books, and KIDS! But, for right now I am a stay-at-home mom and do some marketing and PR contracting work. We’ll see where all of this takes me! As my beautiful late mother-in-law always said, “Life is a smorgasboard. Taste everything.”

I am a 10 year cancer survivor! I was diagnosed with melanoma which left me with a scar on my left arm, but also with my life. For that, I am grateful.

My home is in an awesome Columbus suburb filled with the laughter of two small children, a delightfully sarcastic husband, and two barky mini-schnauzers.  My daughter thinks she is the princess who reigns over the neighborhood, and my son is a little gladiator who either protects our castle or starts fights with neighboring villages…or at least his sister. I prefer to think of myself as the Queen of the house and have been so coined by my daughter, but am probably more similar to the court jester or nurse maid. Gotta love motherhood!
