MOMologues: The Original Comedy About Motherhood Coming to Columbus May 6 & 7

Need an idea for Mother’s Day? Maybe for Mother’s Day you can get a night out with fellow mom friends? If so, don’t miss MOMologues: The Original Comedy About Motherhood coming to Columbus May 6th and 7th, 2011. The show made its debut in Boston, and Perinatal Outreach and Encouragement for Moms (POEM) brought the show to us! The comedy has the same set up as the Vagina Monologues, in that is has four women who tell a story and at various times talk amongst each other. From reading reviews and part of the script, the show connects with moms, and you’ll either be laughing or crying as the women touch upon subjects such as infertility, postpartum depression, or even how crazy it can be as a stay-at-home mom overseeing your child’s “social” schedule. Check out a snippet from the Boston show here: MOMologues: The Original Comedy About Motherhood.

This show was written by moms for moms, “We have an amazing cast, and I think mothers everywhere will relate to the joys and frustrations shared so candidly in this production,” says director Melissa Muguruza Weaver. “This comedy is really a tribute to what all mothers know but don’t always talk about: motherhood is overwhelming and exhausting, but it’s also very, very funny.” Our lovely local cast features: Ellie Merritt, NBC News Anchor; Ann Fisher, WOSU Host; and local actresses Kim Garrison Hopcraft, and Amy Anderson. All proceeds will benefit POEM, a local non-profit that supports maternal mental health.

POEM is really excited to be hosting our first community-wide fundraiser,“ says POEM co-founder and executive director Tonya Fulwider, “As a grassroots, volunteer-led organization dedicated to helping moms and families dealing with maternal mental health issues, we were looking for a light-hearted, fun way to support our mission. The MOMologues is a perfect fit because it gives moms a chance to relax, unwind and laugh while also raising money to support moms and families in our community.” Proceeds from the event will help to support POEM’s many free of charge services, which include mom-to-mom support groups, a 24-hr support line, a mentor program, workshops for providers, community groups and healthcare provider referrals.

The show is only about an hour and a half including intermission – so go out for drinks before or after and still be in bed at a decent hour! We all know there’s no sleeping in for mom…. Excited, yet? I sure am! Be sure to look through the playbill – you may just see my silly mug.
