Asian Festival This Weekend!

Asian Festival This Weekend!

Celebrate Asian culture, arts, and food at the Asian Festival this weekend! On May 26 and 27 at Franklin Park Conservatory, there will be traditional and contemporary entertainment, exhibits, games, shopping, and food from various Asian countries for the whole family to enjoy. There are crafts for the kiddies, dancing Chinese dragons (always my favorite), martial arts performances, and lots of food from Indonesian Sate to Phillipine fried rice. I wanna go now!

The festival runs from 10 am – 9 pm Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27. There are shuttles to help get patrons from their cars to the festival. Look at the site for more information www.asian-festival.org. Be sure to check out the picture gallery for a tease, lookie HERE.

Also, on Monday, May 28, there will be Dragon boat races from 8 am – 4 pm on the river at Genoa Park. This is a really cool event that kids have to see. A dragon boat is a twenty foot canoe with a decorative dragon head on the front and a tail on the back. People have gotten teams together to race their boats, and it should be exciting to watch! Look at their site for more information, parking, and videos from scenes of a Dragon boat race: http://asian-festival.org/dragonboat/.

Planning to go:

  • Plan ahead for parking. That way you won’t freak out when you get downtown and parking is crazy.
  • Kids will get tired – bring a stroller or wagon or plan to carry in a wrap.
  • Bring water! Sunscreen! Hats! It is going to be hot!!!
  • Bring cash. I always bring cash to festivals. Plan for eating, drinking, shopping, etc., etc.
  • Look at the daily activities schedule to plan which performances you want to see and where they are located.
  • Have fun and take lots of pictures!
