July Events as Seen on WTTE Fox 28 “Good Day Columbus”

Thanks to all of you who tuned into my appearance on Fox 28′s Good Day Columbus! Here are the family fun activities I talked about for July:

Summer Letterbox Adventure: It is not too late to start! Preservation Parks in Delaware County put together a six park adventure booklet for letterboxing fun that lasts until August 12.  Pick up a booklet from a Delaware Library children’s desk which includes all you need to know. Our first adventure was at Hogback Ridge Preserves and it took us about 30 minutes to complete – perfect length for little legs. Don’t forget water…or leave it in your car like I did (bad mama). Be sure to check out driving distance before you go, some of the parks may be 35 minutes from Columbus.

Summer Concert Series at the Northwest Library: Friday, July 20 features The Shazzbots! Don’t miss this fun, energetic kids’ rock-n-roll show! Pick up a CD while you’re there and take notice of the awesome artwork by fab local artist Clint Reno.

Fair Time! Already? Yes!
Franklin County Fair in Hilliard runs July 14 – July 21  $5 – $6/person.
Union County Fair in Marysville runs July 22 – July 28 $6/adult and kids 5 and younger are FREE!
Fairs are in full sun, so be sure to pack a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. Try to go during the week in the morning for cooler temps and smaller crowds.

Blueberry Picking! It is the height blueberry season, take advantage of fresh off-the-bush fruit. Many farms are within a 45 minute drive. We like going to The Blueberry Patch in Mansfield, but there are other farms around Central Ohio. Look at pickyourown.org for a farm or google ‘blueberry picking in Central Ohio’. Wear hats and bring lots of ice cold water and snacks for after all that picking. Bushes are just the right height for children and there are no thorns! Once you are at home, cook with your child by making jam together or blueberry buckle. Yum. Cooking with kids post here: Cooking With Your Children.
