Friends of the Sawmill Wetlands “Sawmill Saturdays”

Friends of the Sawmill Wetlands “Sawmill Saturdays” start up this Saturday. Friends of the Sawmill Wetlands are dedicated to the preservation of the wetlands that are located behind Whole Foods in Dublin.  Did you know there was a wetlands in that area? On “Sawmill Saturdays” they open them up from 10a – noon for the public to visit – and it is a great learning experience for kids.

We went last year and  the Turtle Lady was there with her menagerie of reptiles. An informational booth was set up offering pamphlets and magazines full of preservation and wildlife information – all free to take and peruse. My children each selected a ‘Ranger Rick’ and I picked up guides on spiders and butterflies. A Worthington Library rep was there offering books to check out about various topics on wetlands, from animals that live there to the flora and fauna you might find.

There is a wooden trail that leads patrons through the wetlands for a tour. Informational signs are set up with explanations about the plants and birds that thrive there. My kids loved learning about the wetlands and being immersed in nature. As I’ve mentioned before, nature fun is far more interesting and exciting than manufactured fun. 🙂
