SafeSplash Swim School

Kelly Braun had a great experience at SafeSplash swim school – check it out, especially if you are looking for swim lessons for winter!

I think we can all agree that one life skill every parent wants to teach their child is swimming.  My husband and I both swam competitively growing up so having our kids love the water and know how to swim is a must. We are always looking for ways to get them into the water so we were excited to try the new SafeSplash swim school located in the LA Fitness Centers around Columbus, OH. We were even more excited to hear that my husband’s former coach at The Ohio State University, Coach Bill Wadley, was involved in the program. From the moment the kids hit the 84º warm water we were super impressed with the skill level of the program.

What sets this program apart from other programs around town are the instructors. They teach technique and form from the beginning in such fun and innovative ways where the kids don’t even realize they’re learning to swim. Creative swim techniques like dolphin dives to pick up rings all the way down the pool, flippers to feel the power of a dolphin kick, a mirror on the bottom of the pool so they can see themselves swim, a noodle dressed like a swimmer to teach proper side breathing techniques and holding a pumpkin with your feet to teach the breaststroke kick.

My husband attended the PARENT-N-ME II class with our 2 year old son who loves the water. This class increased his confidence in and around the water.  While in the water, one of his favorite parts of the class was the moveable “island”.  This platform allows the kids to stand in the water during the class as opposed to sitting on the side of the pool deck or in a parent’s arms. This gave him a feeling of independence and kept him more engaged during the 30 minutes, not to mention warmer.  Additionally, this class starts to lay the groundwork for water safety, focusing on what to do if he were to slip in. Teaching and enforcing such skills as swimming back to the wall, sliding themselves down the wall and how to pull themselves out.

The instructor was well engaged with our son and my husband during the classes. In-depth explanations for why certain techniques were being taught were continuously provided.

The monthly tuition is $75 which averages about $18 for a 30 minute class. To schedule your child in a swim class call the Customer Service center directly 614-484-7109 or email each site director by finding your location: https://www.safesplash.com/locations/ and then scroll to the bottom of the page to find the staff contact information. They can help you determine the class type and time that would be the best fit for your family. There is also a lot of flexibility with this program so they will work with you to find the best time and day for you to attend. “Our schedule fits your schedule…simple as that.”

It worth mentioning that the pool is located inside of Columbus LA Fitness Centers. You do not need to be a member of LA Fitness to participate in SafeSplash swim school but you will need to check-in at the front desk, walk through the gym to get to the pool and locker rooms. It’s an adult facility so just something to be mindful of when taking your family.
