Archery at Clear Creek Metro Park

Archery at Clear Creek Metro Park

Did you know that the Metro Park system offers archery? I was perusing the Park Scope magazine and saw that it was offered at various times and locations this summer. The best part? It is FREE and FUN!

The classes filled really early and I was lucky to get us in when I did. I called the Metro Park office instead of signing up online, mainly because I wanted to find out if the wait list was worth getting on. The archery program is for children ages 8 and up. They use compound bows and if you haven’t used a compound bow before, you are in for a treat. I’ve always done archery with the old-style one string bow, and my word, compound bows are the way to go!

My son was unable to participate and patiently waited and watched. He complained about being bored, but bored is good for kids…and really, it was only for an hour.

I loved how safety came first. We were taught proper technique and learned how to take the bows out of the target. They turned the targets around to start – cut down on the frustration of not getting it in the bull’s eye…even though, my girls FIRST shot was directly in the middle. She’s a natural.

Anyhow, I highly suggest this program if you can get in. It is fun, free, and a great way to spend some quality family time together. Please be on time and ready to learn. Go for a hike when you are done!

Information is located online under the “Programs” tab on the Metro Parks site: www.metroparks.net or in the latest Park Scope.
